Dragon Scavenger Hunt With Flashlight Reveal
Take an ordinary Dragon Scavenger Hunt and turn it into a mystery with a hidden puzzle! Children search for hidden dragon eggs and use a flashlight to reveal a hidden image and letter, which eventually spells out a dragon-themed mystery word.

I made this for my Son, who is currently obsessed with the ‘Wings Of Fire’ books and who wants a dragon-themed Birthday Party. His friends are mixed ages, and a traditional scavenger hunt seems a little too easy for them, but a full escape room would be too complicated. This seems like a nice happy medium.

How Does the Dragon Egg Mystery Work?
This isn’t a traditional scavenger hunt where children simply find and tick off each item. It’s more like a mini one-puzzle escape room, designed especially for children.
The dragon eggs contain a hidden surprise that is revealed using a flashlight.
As children find each egg, they use the flashlight to discover a hidden image, match it on their recording sheet, and write down the correct letter. Once they’ve found all the eggs, the letters can be arranged to reveal the mystery word.
Setting Up the Dragon Scavenger Hunt
The setup is straightforward. Print and prepare the dragon eggs, then hide them around your chosen area.
Print out a recording sheet for each child or group and give it to them before they start.
You can set up the hunt indoors or outside, depending on the space you have available.
For a group, you could hide the eggs around a classroom, garden or other suitable area. For one or two children, you can make the hiding places as easy or as tricky as you like.

The Flashlight Reveal
The flashlight is what turns this from an ordinary scavenger hunt into a mystery.
The eggs have a hidden image that isn’t visible until a flashlight is used. Once the children reveal the image, they can match it to their recording sheet and work out which letter they need.
Finding each egg becomes part of the puzzle rather than simply being the end goal.

Tips From Our Testing
No torch/flashlight? Don’t worry! You can use the torch on your mobile phone, hold the eggs up to a window with sunlight.
Use card as a backing. Depending on the thickness of the paper you use, you might find it best to add a backing card to the egg with the letter on it. This helps stop the hidden letter showing through when the flashlight isn’t being used.
Laminate if possible. This is a hands-on activity, and children are going to want to pick up and hold the eggs. For durability, I recommend laminating them.
